Whether you like Google or not, it's hard to get around the fact that Chrome is perhaps the best, fastest, and easiest to use web browser.
That said, extensions are a fun and highly productive little invention that plug in to the Chrome browser to modify the browser. These extensions are written using web technologies like HTML, JavaScript, and CSS and are available through the Google Chrome Web Store. Currently, over 2,200 extensions have been published (see Wikipedia).
There are currently twelve different categories of Chrome Extensions available, enough to boggle your mind to say the least. Today, I'm just going to share with you five of my favorites:
1) Evernote Web Clipper
Evernote is a really wonderful productivity program to keep track of notes, photos, tasks, lists, well, virtually anything you every wanted to keep track of and organize. The web clipper puts the little Evernote elephant icon right on your Chrome toolbar. Click it when you're web surfing and save websites, URLs, add notes, add to a folder you already created, etc. It's really useful and helps you keep your notes all in one place. If you need help learning more about how to use Evernote, the ebook Evernote Essentials is a handy guide.
2) Add to Amazon Wish List
If you can't find what you're looking for on Amazon, it probably doesn't exist. That said, as you're shopping or perusing the latest book you'd like to buy, you can quickly add it to your Amazon wish list so that you can keep track of what you'd like to eventually purchase. Even better, the Amazon extension allows you to clip anything from any website to your wish list, keeping it in one nice place.
3) BombBomb
Need a quick yet very personal way to catch up with virtually anyone? Why bother with a phone message when you can record a short video and send it in a matter of seconds. If you're already a BombBomb video email user like me (join my newsletter list here to get the Social Media and the Church ebook for free.) You can sign up for a free trial of BombBomb video email marketing software to test it out. Trust me, you won't be disappointed. [Full disclosure: BombBomb is a CTT site sponsor.]
4) Hootsuite Hootlet
Hootsuite is a wonderful social media tool to send out tweets, Facebook updates, and more, all through one web-based user interface. I highly recommend it for managing your social media campaigns. The Hootsuite Hootlet (yes, all their products and apps have an owl theme) is a great Chrome extension that allows you to clip websites and send out the URLs without navigating over to the Hootsuite full version. As you're cruising along on the web, you can easily send out updates to all your social media channels in a matter of minutes.
5) Feedly
Since the announced demise of Google Reader, users have until July 1 to start using another reader to avoid loosing all your stored RSS feeds. If you use Google Reader to read my blog, please take a moment to download the Feedly app from the Apple Store or Google Play store, then the app will ask if you want to migrate all your feeds to Feedly, say yes. These will all match up and be the same from device to computer. Install the Feedly Chrome Extension on your desktop and you'll have all your sites and blogs with you wherever you go. It's a beautiful thing. (CTT's feed is here if you need to add it.)
