Seeds Family Worship: The Word of God [Music Review]

-

As a worship leader, writer, blogger, and mom to four kids under 11, I LOVE new worship music that gets me pumped up and ignites my passion (and my family's passion) for worship. I've long been a fan of Seeds Family Worship and their awesome scripture-infused tracks set to upbeat tunes that make you want to dance while sneaking in scripture memorization. It's a win-win.

Our church has used their YouTube videos with words for years for our mid-week kids program, so when Seeds reached out to ChurchTechToday directly asking us to review their latest album, Volume 8: The Word of God, we were thrilled!

Track one and title track, The Word of Godbased on Hebrews 4:12, starts out in a minor key and a bit sad-sounding then the tempo soars, and chorus unfolds into a passion-filled high-energy chorus, “I love your word / I love your word, oh God.” This one is perfect for youth group.

Track two, with powerhouse Matthew West as lead vocalist, Your Life is Hidden, will stick with you–you've probably already heard it on the radio. You'll be left reminded that your life is hidden with Christ in God – Colossians 3:2-3 – and get a good cardio workout if you're dancing to this number.

Perhaps my favorite upbeat track on the album is track three, Impress them. Granted I'm partial to any song that marries multiple genres like rock and bluegrass; the banjo lead is impressive and moves the song along. This knee-thumping, foot-stomping Shema will get your blood pumping for sure.

Lastly, tack ten, A Woman Who Fears the Lord, is one of the most beautiful and powerful excerpts of scripture set simply and powerfully to music that I've ever heard. Most of us are well-acquainted with Proverbs 31:30. Jessica Morlan exquisitely croons this intensely emotional ballad sure to prick your heart.

The end of the album also includes an acoustic version of Your Life is Hidden and a Bonus VBS version of Jesus Christ is Lord based on Philippians 2:9-11.

Seeds Family Worship is currently offering a free download of their song, Give Thanks, based on Psalm 105:1-3.

This album would make a great Christmas gift for anyone – young or old – and would also be a great stocking stuffer for your favorite youth pastor. I highly recommend it.
