Many are finding great value in bible software that has been specifically designed to cut out busywork and facilitate focused and productive explorations into the word of God. Logos Bible Software is a ministry and sermon prep platform that helps people offer enriched messages to fellow believers and an enhanced understanding of God’s word.

However, like most software, users only get the most out of what is available after doing a bit of research on how to use the software itself. That’s why Logos Daily offers users three different course levels that are designed to provide users with either a basic, advanced, or specialized understanding of the software.

If you ask questions like—

How do I find my favorite Bible?

How does Logos know I want to use that Bible?

How do I find information from my library about a person, place, or thing?

How do I get my favorite commentaries to show up when I create a search?

The Logos Daily Basics course is an excellent choice for you because these are the questions that everyone has after purchasing Logos Bible Software.

In this article, Logos national presenter, Ryland Brown, explains eight features of the Logos Daily Basics course that will make you want to dive right in and learn more about the software.

Wise up: 5 Factors To Consider When Choosing Bible Software

6 Features of Logos Daily Basics Course That Will Make You Want to Begin Immediately

When renting a car, I learn where all the buttons are. Where is the switch for the windshield wipers? Is there a lever to open up the cover for the gas cap? If traffic gets intense, will I be able to find the off button for the radio? I want to know where the buttons are so I can drive the vehicle well.

While using Logos Bible Software isn’t a matter of life or death, unless you are trying to use it while driving, it is essential to have a basic understanding of the layout and features of the software so that you can use it well. Logos Daily’s Basics Course allows you to hit the ground running!

In the Basics Course, our goal is to give a brief overview of Logos Bible Software and what to familiarize yourself with when you open the software for the first time. These eight features will show why this course is a brilliant option if you want to use your Logos Bible Software well.

1. Program Settings

Logos is excellent at allowing users to customize their experience. Would you prefer to use dark mode, light mode, or system settings? Do you like fonts and font size? When you open Logos, do you want to see what you were studying the last time you used the software or a clean slate? What should happen when you double-click or triple-click? Do you want to see the words of Jesus in red?

You can have all of that and more. Personal preferences can be found and updated in the program settings. When you make changes to the program settings, you can also make global changes to the software.

2. Home Screen

The first thing you’ll see when you start Logos is the Home Screen.

It’s common for users to open up Logos for the first time and ask, “What do I do now?” This part of the course allows users to understand everything on the Home Screen. Why are there different cards on the screen? How are they updated, and can a user customize this screen?

3. Prioritize Resources

Prioritization allows users to let Logos know their favorite Bibles, commentaries, dictionaries, and books. If I search for John 3:16, Logos will populate the commentaries I prioritized in my library. This kind of search means my favorite books will come to the top of a search. There’s no more opening up the library, trying to find the book I’m looking for, and turning to the right page. Logos has become my personal research assistant!

4. Toolbar

When users open up Logos, they see icons and words at the top of the screen. This part of the course shows what the go box, docs, guides, and tools mean. Logos is jam-packed with features, interactives, guides, and workflows. Not only is your library of resources housed within Logos, but the software provides the tools you need to help study the Bible. Do you want to start a passage list of verses on the subject of hope? Would you like more information about a Biblical character or preaching theme? Would you like Logos to help you do an inductive study of a text? The toolbar can be your gateway to harnessing the power of Logos.

4. Linksets

When preparing sermons, I used to have my Bible, a study Bible, and several commentaries open on my desk. Turning the page in my Bible would often require me to turn to a new page in my commentaries and study Bible, too. Linksets have become a timesaver. Users can link a Bible to multiple commentaries. Having my resources on the same link-set means that if I go to John 3:16 in my Bible, all of my open commentaries on John will go to John 3:16, too. Additionally, the panels scroll together. So, if I scroll in my Bible to another passage, my versified commentaries scroll at the same time. Logos allows for multiple linksets, which means you could have more than one Bible open and different commentaries linked to each Bible.

5. Factbook

Factbook replaces the searching you would normally do on Google. In Logos 9, the developers outdid themselves with how much information is in Factbook. Historical events? Factbook. Grammar? Factbook. Biblical characters? Factbook. Factbook is often my starting point when it comes to searching within Logos.

My favorite way to use Factbook is by searching for a book of the Bible. Logos becomes my personal research assistant by telling me information about that book, but it also opens up resources in my library to show information about it.

6. Layouts

One of the beautiful features of Logos is saving different studies for the future. What if you are studying for an upcoming small group lesson, and there are Bibles, commentaries, and guides on your screen? Or what if you need to take a break from studying for the small group lesson, and you want to read one of your books instead? This portion of the course shows you how to save your small group study, remove those resources from your screen, and allows you to open them again in the future. Logos lets users save as many layouts as they need. There are also layouts, like the devotional layout or the Greek word layout, that Logos provides for you to open up resources and get you studying.

THE CRUX OF THE LOGOS DAILY BASICS COURSE

When I bought Logos Bible Software, I didn’t use it for six months because I didn’t take the time to learn these key features. I became overwhelmed because I did not know what to do, and instead of creating better study habits with Logos Bible Software, I fell back to what I did before I had Logos. This one-hour cost is currently $5, and it will help you feel confident in studying God’s word with the best Bible software on the planet. The best part of the course is that you can access the videos for as long as you need them. There’s no better time to get into this fantastic deal.
