If you want to effectively maximize YouTube for ministry, you must explore the trending feature on YouTube: Shorts.
YouTube Shorts are bite-sized videos up to 60 seconds long, and they offer a unique opportunity to grow your church’s YouTube channel and reach a broader audience.
Do you remember when Instagram integrated the Stories feature into its platform years ago, “borrowing” the feature from Snapchat?
YouTube has essentially done the same with TikTok with Shorts, and users who are leaning into this trending feature are finding great success!

How You Can Maximize YouTube Shorts For Channel Growth:
1. Share Inspiring Messages: Create short, impactful messages that can be easily consumed. Think of them as digital “daily bread” – quick words of inspiration, scripture quotes, or thought-provoking questions.
2. Sermon Clips: Maximize the content you’re already creating with your sermon videos and create vertically clipped videos out of your sermons.
3. Behind-the-Scenes Clips: Give a glimpse of behind-the-scenes moments from church events or preparations. This can help in personalizing your ministry and building a closer connection with your community.
4. Promote Upcoming Events: Use Shorts to create buzz about upcoming sermons, events, or special services. These short announcements can be more engaging than traditional promotional content.
5. Engage with Trends and Challenges: Participate in relevant, trending challenges or themes within the respectful boundaries of your church’s values.
6. Testimonials and Stories: Share quick testimonies or stories of impact and life change that resonate with viewers.
4 Best Practices For Creating YouTube Shorts:
- Vertical Format: Since Shorts are primarily designed for mobile viewing, shoot your videos in vertical format.
- Strong Opening: The first few seconds are crucial to retain viewers’ attention. Start with something engaging or intriguing.
- Clear Audio and Lighting: Ensure your audio is clear and your video is well-lit, even if you’re shooting on a smartphone.
- Use Hashtags: Include relevant hashtags like #Church or #FaithIn60Seconds to improve discoverability.

Hello there!
I have a channel dedicated to original worship music, but also biblical content including family Bible stories, and an audio Bible series. I was wondering if you had any insight, as far as YouTube shorts was concerned, as to what category niche Biblical content belongs? From descriptions of say, the Entertainment, Education, etc. categories, nothing really fits perfectly. Is it a Non-Profit/Activism sort of thing? I’m trying to figure out how to increase our visibility and I am wondering if part of the problems is that I don’t know how to categorize our videos?
Great question, Paul. Here are some that I’d recommend checking out:

Hey Nils, thx for the insight. Can you share links to some church’s YT channels who are doing a good job with shorts?
@Paul have you seen our list of top churches on YouTube: https://churchtechtoday.com/churches-on-youtube that @DJChuang helped research and share?
