Are Responsive Websites Worth the Hype? [Infographic]

-

Responsive web design is all the rage. It's seems every new content management system or WordPress theme is now responsive to meet the needs of people viewing a website on any kind of device.

According to WikiPedia.org, “Responsive web design (RWD) is a web design approach aimed at crafting sites to provide an optimal viewing experience—easy reading and navigation with a minimum of resizing, panning, and scrolling—across a wide range of devices (from mobile phones to desktop computer monitors).”

So is Responsive web design worth the hype? Considering that 29% of people visit websites from their phones, multiple times a day, it just might be. Experts predict that mobile browsing will triumph over desktop internet browsing by 2015.

Is your church website on a responsive platform? Take a moment now and pull out your mobile phone, now go to your church's very own website. How does it look? Can you navigate well on it? Be honest.

  1. I feel that certain types of websites lend themselves well to full responsive sites; sites you visit to catch up on when you have a few mins on your hands. Church / religious sites definitely fit the bill. Good call and thanks for reminder.

  2. Responsive design is DEFINITELY worth it. If your design team is experience in UX and mobile then you can dramatically reduce the amount of scope creep in responsive design projects.

  3. Mobile usage is becoming more and more popular so in my opinion having an optimized website is very important to get & sustain a big ammount of visiting users.

  4. Yes in my opinion they are worth it. I myself will leave a site quick if I have to do a bunch of resizing and they have not mobilized it for user experience. So while I know some or maybe a lot don’t see it as an issue but for me and my user experience it is an issue. Another good question is should we go responsive, mobile web development, web app or standalone actual app in google and Apple market? There are good and bad points to both I’m sure, but will be really glad when most churches adopt their site to be a better user experience than it is right now for quite a few. Just my 2 cents.

  5. This is exactly what we need more of: articulate arguments for the investment into new technology. Since most senior leaders have served in a modern technical position there is a greater objection to significant investments being made in technologies such as RWD.

I urge everyone to bookmark this page to return to for the moment when you are asked by your senior leader, “why do we need something like this?”
