7 Online Bible Curriculum Options for Kids

With a different kind of fall looming in front of us thanks to COVID-19, many families, including mine, will be homeschooling or distance learning. All summer I’ve been thinking, “What will the fall be like? What could I do differently if we’re distance learning?” Although our kids are enrolled in California public schools, perhaps this is my opportunity to work in a Bible curriculum before they get started for the day. In the past, I’ve used a short devotional or reformed lectionary guide to get my kids a little scripture with their daily vitamins and orange juice. With less driving hither and yon, it is possible your family might have more time to work in a more robust Bible curriculum. There are multiple online Bible curriculums that have been beefed up during COVID-19 to give us homeschooling newbies a little more confidence. 

Here are seven online Bible curriculum options for kids to help you navigate this fall:

#1 – Bible App for Kids

The Bible App for Kids by Life.Church, developers of You Version’s Bible App, was created for younger preschool and early elementary-aged kids. The lessons contain vivid illustrations with touch-activated animations, games, and activities that will help kids remember what they learned. Parents can stream or download 30-minute video episodes, along with free companion resources like coloring pages and activity sheets. The parent guide provides multiple opportunities to experience the Gospel story with your child. Churches can also utilize the two-year companion curriculum for free. It can be downloaded from iTunes, Google Play, or Amazon.

#2 – BibleGenius (Brought to you by CatholicBrain.com)

BibleGenius is a new and interactive way to learn and study the Bible daily. It is filled with over 2,000 Bible videos, lesson plans, quizzes, games, and activities for kids, teens, and adults. This site offers a daily Bible reading, video, and quiz to reinforce learning and engage Bible learners. BibleGenius provides an online Bible, audio Bible, and Bible videos to facilitate different types of learning and is available in multiple translations. This resource also includes multiple printables to take learning offline.

#3 – The Bible Project 

BibleProject is a nonprofit animation studio that produces short-form, fully animated Bible videos and other Bible resources to make the biblical story accessible to everyone, everywhere. They create 100% free Bible videos, podcasts, and Bible resources to help people experience the story of the Bible. While The Bible Project isn’t geared specifically to young children, videos are very engaging and extremely helpful for older elementary students through adults.

#4 – CatholicBrain 

CatholicBrain provides innovative solutions for Pre-K to 8th-grade faith formation and religious education. This resource provides young Catholics access to over 5,000 interactive videos, quizzes, games, bible stories, saint stories, catechism videos, lesson plans, seasonal programs, and assessments. It offers a 14-day free trial period to test out the software and ensure it fits your needs. This online Bible curriculum. also includes a  comprehensive list of the most common catholic prayers and a searchable index of saints.

#5 – Home Edition Gospel Project by LifeWay 

This Home Edition Gospel Project by LifeWay is designed to take  Kindergarten through fifth-grade students through the unified story of God’s Redemption. It is a five-day per week curriculum for families that want to lead their children in discipleship in the home setting. Semesters 1-3 are dedicated to studying the Old Testament and semesters 4-6 explore the  New Testament. The website offers a free sample to see if it is the right resource is the right online Bible curriculum for your family. An Ultimate Big Picture Learning Pack is also available for purchase and includes an interactive bible, posters, booklets, timeline, and flashcards.

Cost: $47.99 per semester; individual books are also available for purchase.

#6 – Virtual Sunday School 

This Youtube channel was developed during COVID-10 to help engage children in families who can not attend church physically. The library offers videos ranging from five minutes to 40 minutes. The videos include games, crafts, stories, songs, challenges, and a whole lot of fun.

#7 – What’s in the Bible? (whatsinthebible.com

This resource was recently created to take children in grades first through fifth through the bible, from Genesis to Revelation, with Buck Denver and Friends in a 52-week curriculum developed by VeggieTales creator Phil Vischer. We know the stories of Moses, Noah, David, and Jesus, but in this groundbreaking new series, we learn how they all fit together to tell one big, redemptive story. Each DVD in the 13 DVD collection contains two 25 minute episodes.  

Cost: $149.99 for the complete series volume 1-13. 

With so many excellent resources, your family can build a plan to incorporate Bible curriculum into your everyday life. Hopefully, your family will also consider including some of these resources even beyond the COVID-19 digital learning timeframe.
