7 Tech Hacks to Engage With Scripture More in the New Year

-

As we prepare to enter a new year, many of us will resolve to engage with scripture more. The most obvious way to do this is with a daily Bible reading habit. That's an excellent place to begin. There are several other ways to stay focused on the Bible throughout your day, including several tech hacks to engage with Scripture.

Here are seven ideas to help you dive deeper into God’s word this year:

#1 – Leverage Bible Study Software

If you’re interested in doing a topical study or want to leverage commentaries, Bible study software is a great place to start. Logos, Accordance, and Olive Tree are a few examples of Bible study software. These typically include multiple translations, access to a library of resources, maps, and much more.

With the corresponding apps, you can use your mobile device or desktop to dig in more deeply to God's word wherever you are.

#2 – Get Daily Reminders

Consider accepting push notifications from the YouVersion app to receive reminders about the YouVersion reading plan you’ve selected and a verse of the day.

#3 – Engage Online with Your Home Church

Chances are your home church posts regularly on social media. Follow your church and others on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, and YouTube (or whichever social media channels they're on). Many churches post devotionals, messages, verses of the day, and links to their recent sermons.

#4 – Listen to the Word

Don’t have time to sit down for a lengthy study session? Whether you’re on the road or cleaning the house, you can listen to entire books of the Bible via the YouVersion app.

#5 – Check Out Podcasts

Another great listening option is the plethora of podcasts available. A few examples include Tim Keller, The Gospel Coalition Podcast, and Rick Warren. Search for specific pastors, churches, or ministries in your favorite podcast player. You can subscribe to as many as you'd like to have their latest episodes downloaded automatically onto your mobile device.

#6 – Build a Playlist

Fill your mind, home, or office with worship music. Build a custom playlist using YouTube or Spotify. Use Google Play or Pandora to access worship and Christian artist music stations. Search for worship music on iTunes and download your favorite songs.

#7 – Curate Scriptural Reading Material

There is an endless supply of articles, blog posts, and commentary by Christian authors and pastors available online. Find the ones you find most useful and subscribe to receive their posts in an app like Feedly. Instead of searching for each blogger’s website individually, you’ll receive their latest posts within the Feedly app.

Thankfully, we have a wide variety of options to help us consume the Word on a regular basis. Try out a few of these tech hacks to engage with Scripture more in the upcoming year.
