In the last 15 years of writing and publishing about church technology, I’ve seen quite a few websites come and go. Some folks start out with gusto only to find that publishing excellent content on a regular basis can’t be a hobby if success is the goal. One such site, Church Relevance, which was founded by Kent Shaffer in 2006, is under new ownership and quickly gaining traction in providing valuable content and insight for church leaders.
It is encouraging to see Church Relevance evolve and continue in its original purpose to learn how ministry is being done across the many flavors of Christianity. Thirteen years is a long time for a blog, and it still has momentum, so I'm excited to see where the future takes it,” says Kent Shaffer, founder and former owner of Church Relevance.
I interviewed Diana Kaemingk with Church Relevance to find out more:
What is the goal for Church Relevance and how will it be a resource to pastors and church leaders?
ChurchRelevance.com will serve pastors and church leaders by offering valuable advice and guidance from trustworthy Christian leaders. By delivering engaging articles, podcasts, and videos, the site strives to battle burnout and reignite passions. A high-quality course shop furthers this mission by training and equipping ministry leaders. Additionally, a supportive online community will supplement the site and facilitate vital dialogue amongst leaders who benefit from sharing and being encouraged by others.
Who is your target audience?
Our target audience is pastors and all church staff members, but specifically:
- Senior Pastors
- Church Administrators
- Worship Leaders
- Youth/Children Pastors
- Financial Director/CFO
- Church Communicators
- AV/Tech team members
- Church Board Members
What types of content will Church Relevance focus on?
We will be focusing on church technology, websites, and live streaming, under the church communications umbrella. It's just not our sole focus. There are many resources that church leaders need to feel supported and equipped, so we're focusing on five content categories.
How frequently will Church Relevance publish articles and what will the distribution be?
We are producing three to five pieces of content per week in the form of articles, videos, and podcasts. We intend to send out a weekly subscription-based content digest email. People can sign up here.
You mentioned selling online courses – what will some of these be and what will the pricing be?
Our courses will be sold individually for $97-$1188/course. Current course options include topics from child security to worship leading to Sunday morning systems just to name a few.
