10 Must-Write Church Blog Posts for 2013

It is officially the new year of 2013 which means resolutions have been committed, goals set, and action already taken to make this year better than last year. This could be the year that individual churches being to take to the web as a great tool to get more people into the doors of their church and what better way to do that than with a blog. Regardless if you are trying to post every day or one a week, the consistency and quality of material you are putting out there.

Whether you are a ten year blogging veteran that is giving your church an online presence or someone just trying to figure out if this is a possible tool, after a couple of weeks or months of truly authentic, engaging, and creative content, you may need some help getting good ideas for your church’s blog. Here are ten suggestions for you to use to put on your church’s blog:

1) The 3-Minute Version Of This Week’s Sermon

Doing a shortened version of your sermon that not only reads quickly, but gets to the heart of what you are trying to say makes for a great opportunity for new members to feel like they are not outsiders.

2) Creating A Dialogue

This is the perfect medium to engage with those heard your sermon with a quick post sharing the main points of your sermon in a video series, but then asking specific, open-ended questions that promote conversations for deeper learner.

3) Share The “Extra”

If you have done much in the way of sermons, you know that what you present is only 10-20% of what you studied. Why not share the other stuff that is relevant and interesting to the inquisitive.

4) Share Resources

In your sermon, you probably mentioned some kind of resources or opportunities for people to take advantage of. Blog posts that are done this way frequently will build a culture of resource finding on your blog.

5) Show Off Your Congregation

Is your youth group doing a service project? Love the VBS involvement? Are adults engaged with the community? Share videos and photos on a regular basis on your blog

6) Teach Them How

In your sermons you always say that you can find this verse or Greek says that. Why not use a video post to show them how you do some different things. Doesn’t have to be a whole Seminary course, just quick and informative.

7) Share Your Theological Bent

Everyone has a different theological worldview and expressing yours well on the blog can create great dialogues as well as an advertisement for those that would like to know more about your church.

8) Show Off Videos

Many churches put numerous hours into great videos that are only shown a couple of times at church and then forgotten. Why not post these videos on the blog for all to see when they want to?

9) Ask The Pastor

The blogging world could be a great two-way conversation area where you take questions, give it a bit of thought, and give a worthy response. Excellent.

10) Promote A Sermon Series

If you want to try to really get congregation members engaged, do a post a couple of months out with a teaser about the series and maybe even ask for stories from people to add to your sermon. Taking from the digital and external world to bring into the face-to-face and spiritual world in the church.

These are just some of the ideas to help you continuing to blog well.
