Technology can be a great tool in order to make charitable giving a greater priority this year. Between your laptop, your tablet, and your smartphone, there’s no reason you and your church members can’t be completely on top of your financial situation in order to make more room for additional giving. As the Bible tells us through the Apostle Paul:

Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.” 2 Corinthians 9:7-8

Because many of us rely on technology for managing church life and personal life, by using technology to manage your financial life – both personally and for your church’s finances—God can be glorified when intentionality is created to give and serve Him.

That said, here are eight ways technology can help make giving a priority in your life even more in the New Year:

1) Personal Financials

Mint.com and Quicken both offer some pretty powerful online tools that sync via computer to all your digital devices. This can be a great way to help your church members keep on top of their spending and plan for more generous giving.

2) Church Financials

Get a better grip on your church's financial situation by using integrated church management software such as Elexio or Church Community Builder to oversee your church's financial picture, church membership data, church website, and more.

3) Provide a Giving App

Giving your church members the ability to donate via their smartphones is perhaps the easiest way to encourage giving. There are many church apps on the market for churches to choose from. After all, who really carries their checkbook with them these days?

4) Offer Personal Finance Classes

Offer your church members the Crown or Dave Ramsey financial class to kick start the New Year. Help everyone stay accountable through your church management software social features.

5) Offer Online Bible studies on Generosity

Right Now Media offers subscriptions to churches that enable anyone to stream thousands of Bible study videos from any internet connection.

6) Order Stewardship Resources Online

Brian Kluth is a giving expert and has written a number of helpful resources, including the 40-Day Spiritual Journey to a More Generous Life. Order copies online and make them available to your congregation; do the devotional as a church body.

7) Enable Your Church Website for Easy Online Donations

Design your church website with giving in mind by putting the link to your online giving page on every webpage is a simple-to-find location. Make giving simple and easy.

8) Help People Commit to Regular Giving

Make sure your church giving engine has the ability for people to set up recurring giving—this is the ticket to helping people give more regularly. Just like you pay your rent or mortgage on the first of each month, help your members contribute on the same day each month.

So there you have it, eight helpful ways to prioritize giving. What would you add to the list?
